Ingredients

1 package (12 rolls) of Hawaiian sweet rolls

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 cup crushed pineapple (drained)

1/2 cup shredded coconut

1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

Prep the Rolls: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and set it aside. Slice Hawaiian sweet rolls in half horizontally and arrange them cut-side up in the prepared dish.

Make the Custard Mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.

Combine Ingredients: Stir in the crushed pineapple, shredded coconut, and if using, the chopped pecans or walnuts. Mix until everything is evenly distributed.

Pour Over Rolls: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the arranged rolls, making sure to soak them well. Use a fork to gently press down the rolls to help them absorb the custard.

Let it Soak: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and let it sit for at least 30 minutes, or preferably, refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld and the rolls to soak up the mixture.

Bake: Remove the foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.

Serve: Let the bake cool for a few minutes. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with maple syrup drizzled on top.
