Crispy Chilli Beef (with Sweet Chilli) - Chinese Shredded Beef

Ingredients
  

300g beef flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

1 cup cornstarch

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)

1 red bell pepper, sliced

1 green bell pepper, sliced

1 medium onion, sliced

3-4 cloves garlic, minced

1-2 red chillies, thinly sliced (adjust based on heat preference)

1/4 cup sweet chili sauce

1 tbsp soy sauce

2 tbsp rice vinegar

1 tbsp sesame oil

Fresh coriander (cilantro), for garnish

Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions
 

Prep the Beef: Start by marinating the sliced beef in a mixture of soy sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Allow it to marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours for more flavor).

    Prepare the Coating: In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. This will be your batter for crispy beef.

      Heat the Oil: In a large frying pan or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

        Coat and Fry the Beef: Once the oil is hot, remove the beef from the marinade (shake off excess marinade) and coat it in the flour mixture. Carefully add the coated beef slices to the hot oil in batches, frying them until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and set aside on paper towels to drain excess oil.

          Stir-Fry the Vegetables: In the same pan, add the sliced onions, red and green bell peppers, and chillies. Stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until they are tender but still crisp. Add the minced garlic and stir for an additional minute.

            Combine with Sweet Chili Sauce: In a small bowl, mix the sweet chili sauce and sesame oil. Pour this over the stir-fried vegetables, and stir to combine well. Add in the crispy beef and toss everything together until well coated and heated through, another minute.

              Serve: Transfer the crispy chilli beef to a serving platter. Garnish with fresh coriander and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
