Ingredients

2 ripe bananas, mashed

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 large egg

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mash the Bananas: In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until smooth.

Mix Wet Ingredients: Add the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar to the mashed bananas. Stir until well combined. Then mix in the vanilla extract and the egg, ensuring everything is incorporated smoothly.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Blend Wet and Dry: Gradually add the dry mixture into the wet banana mixture. Stir gently, being careful not to overmix; it’s okay if there are a few lumps remaining.

Add the Goodies: Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts (if using) until evenly distributed.

Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool and Slice: Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then lift them out using the parchment paper. Let them cool completely on a wire rack before cutting them into squares.
