Ingredients

6 slices of thick bread (such as brioche or challah)

3 large eggs

1/2 cup milk (or almond milk for a dairy-free option)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon sugar (optional)

Pinch of salt

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (panko works great for extra crispiness)

Cooking spray or melted butter (for greasing)

Maple syrup, for serving

Fresh fruit (optional), for serving

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Prepare the Bread: Cut each slice of bread into four equal strips to create the French toast sticks.

Whisk the Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, sugar, and a pinch of salt until well combined.

Dip the Bread: Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture, ensuring that both sides are coated but not overly soaked. Allow any excess mixture to drip off.

Coat with Breadcrumbs: Place the coated sticks in a shallow dish with the breadcrumbs. Press gently to ensure the crumbs adhere to the bread sticks.

Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the bread sticks on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each stick. Lightly spray or brush the tops with cooking spray or melted butter for extra crispiness.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.

Serve: Remove from the oven and allow them to cool slightly. Serve warm with maple syrup for dipping and fresh fruit if desired. Enjoy your delicious and crispy baked French toast sticks!
